Yesterday, August 3rd, we spent the day with our shoah ambassadors. We began the day with Curtis Bates at CEO Recording Studio in Southfield, MI, owned and operated by Kalean Law. After a sit-down interview with Curtis and Kalaen, they both went to work. We got an inside look at what the typical recording process looks like for an up and coming rapper in Detroit. Curtis got in the recording room while Kalean sat on the other side of the glass on his keyboard, guiding Curtis through the creative process. We were filming the day in the life of Curtis, the song he wrote and sang will better help the audience understand who Curtis is and why he chose to help tell the story of the Holocaust.
We then headed over to the College for Creative Studies to meet with Hailey Callahan in her studio, the ceramics department. There, we filmed her creative process in constructing art installations through pottery and soldering. We were introduced to her instructor, Ebitenyefa Baralaye, who is an assistant professor and the section head of ceramics at CCS. We filmed a sit-down interview with Ebi as he explained the importance of art as an avenue of telling stories about history throughout the world.
We will be back in the CCS lab soon to film Hailey as she goes through her creative process of creating an art display that will help her younger generation understand the significance of the atrocities of the Holocaust.
We are excited we get to work with these incredibly talented young individuals through this creative journey of telling the story of the Holocaust to their generation and the generations to come.
